Full Professor (W3) of “Translational Oncology”

The Medical Faculty of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität (WWU) Münster invites applications from medical doctors for a position available immediately. The professorship will be a 5-year appointment initially with tenure-track option. The position will be supplemented by scientific, clinical and technical staff positions and equipment.

The professor of ‘”Translational Oncology” will head an independent laboratory unit and a patient care unit in the Medical Department A for Hematology, Oncology and Pneumology (Director from 01.08.2017: Professor Georg Lenz) at the University Hospital Münster. The successful candidate is expected to contribute, strengthen and significantly expand the “Malignant lymphoma” research program of the Medical Department A. We are looking for an internationally recognized scientist with an outstanding track record with respect to publications and third party funding in the field of malignant lymphomas with a high commitment to innovative teaching. International scientific experience is desired. The applicants’ research portfolio should include state-of the art technologies as well as advanced mouse and human lymphoma models. Of particular interest are scientists with expertise in analyzing cellular dynamics and in vivo tracking of lymphoma cells using novel molecular and cellular imaging tools that could provide a translational link to patients.

This professorship is one of the clinical translational professorships promoted by the ‘Cells in Motion - CiM’ Cluster of Excellence (, and the Medical Faculty Münster. Clinical translational professors dedicate 60% or more of their time to translational research activities in addition to having reduced clinical duties. We are looking for a candidate who will closely collaborate with existing hematologic core areas especially the “Leukemia division”, and potentially organizing a collaborative research program.

The Medical Faculty expects active collaborations with the existing collaborative research programs, especially the CiM excellence cluster, SFB1009 Breaking Barriers, the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine, the European Institute for Molecular Imaging (EIMI), the Institute for Molecular Tumor Biology, the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research (IZKF) and the Center for Clinical Trials (ZKS).

The appointment requires a university degree as well as a lecturer qualification, or a positively reviewed junior professorship or equivalent qualification.
